Today we are going to discuss one of favorite tools in the high intensity training toolbox (HIT toolbox); which is no other than: DROP SET! Yes! Drop set, drop set and more drop set! Ouch! That would be sore for days!

We actually have a video uploaded on you tube about this, please excuse the definition; we are having trouble with our Hdef cam and I would not mind uploading a low def vid than risk not showing the proper technique at all. The set was all thanks to Ronnie! Yeah uncle Ron, from our local gym, a big guy indeed.
Basically you get a weight that you can do for reps; its up to you and your program. Then at the last set you immediately reduce the weight upon reaching your first failure; that is a drop set! the do another drop set,and another drop set! until you cannot even do another rep with a very low light weight anymore.
It is best to do drop sets with with dumbbell moves like what we did on this video or with machines where you can easily change the weight by just selecting where to place the pin.
You can also do this with barbell moves but that would make it a bit trickier; since it will take more time to drop the weights (as you need to re-rack, stand and take off the outermost plates) – for that its better if you have someone else standing by to remove the plates for you. One thing you need to take note of when doing drop set with barbel moves is the placement of your plates; make sure that the most proximal plates (the first set of plates you pin into the bar) are light enough so that you can do it for reps after exhausting yourself with the first set of drops.
For example; if you are going to do 200 pounds drop set, 50lbs on each side for the first plates, then put 25s next, or simply put 4 25 pound plates on each side, that way with each drop set you can drop 25 pound plates on each side.Follow @AboutLifting
