Visualization Techniques to Help in Lifting – Visualize and Let your Body do the Rest


When it comes to performing 100% effort especially in lifting weights – it’s all about the “vision”: Visualization. The body reacts on what you think and will adjust its prowess accordingly since your body will see your vision as the actual “reality”. In other words – just visualize and your body will know what to do.

When I lift I thought about the muscles involved, the bodily mechanisms, and other stuff like that. I have lost that “raw” animal drive that I had before back when I never knew any of these intelligent stuffs and how did I get it back: “visualization”.

Don’t make your lifts intellectual – make them “intensely visualized”. I have experienced quite recently that even though I have gained significant strength because I know how the body works and I have been able to make myself bigger and stronger – I feel like I was missing that same “feeling” I had; that intensity – the raw emotional drive that I was able to do each rep way back when I didn’t know better about the body.

I realize that my lifts have become quite “intellectual”; when I lift I thought about the muscles involved, the bodily mechanisms, and other stuff like that. I have lost that “raw” animal drive that I had before back when I never knew any of these intelligent stuffs. And how did I get it back: “visualization”.

I have a perfect example for you:

We used this back in my “martial arts days”. We are supposed to hold an egg in our right hand and we are supposed to throw a good punch with that hand while holding the egg without breaking it.

The technique was visualizing an aura – your “ki” protecting the egg as you throw the punch. Indeed it will make the task 100% attainable. Sure you will not accomplish it the first time even if you “visualize” your ki or chi, but comparing it to when you didn’t visualize you will know the difference.

Because that vision is going to be your reality while you train

But actually you are not in any way emitting a ray of protective barrier for the egg – what your body does is support the egg with the use of your forearm muscles so that those muscles will end up absorbing the force instead of the egg.

So you see your body just recruited your forearms more effectively after you imagined that you emitted a ray of protective light? Does that seem strange? That proves our point that after visualization of a positive – encouraging scenario (like chakras emitting from your body) your body would automatically know what to do; it is going to do the rest of the stuff and will fire all the necessary muscles at an optimum efficiency and at right power level it needs to possibly fulfill the vision.

You see, that is the secret of visualization: Your body will actually try to FULFILL your VISION so you end up being more effective at the task.

AS LONG AS YOU BELIEVE THE VISION

That is one of the important points – you have to believe the vision even at least at that present time. You really have to tell yourself that you are feeling a ray of light protecting the egg.

And the funny thing is: Your body will fire the necessary muscles more effectively after visualizing something like that “ki” light above than if your actually intellectually visualize how your muscles work – scientifically.

Why? Because intellect unconsciously limits you

See I visualize I lift the weight. Now my pectoralis major is contracting then relaxing again using my ATP reserves then once these get exhausted . . . oh sh¡t that is the lactic acid build up: I am reaching failure!

You see how that works? That is where I have been having difficulty. You see this one below works better:

I am a hydraulic machine my arms are made of steel and I am loading it now with a weight (I am also doing bench here). The machine pumps and pumps the weight I am a machine – this is nothing to me – oh look at that light weight being processed by the pumpin’ hydraulic machine (my pecs)-  ugh! -Continues with the set with more reps than the one above.

Actually I have been having a hard time not visualizing about physiology instead. But the hydraulic sh¡t – it’s working great so far. Off course I really don’t utter those words when I lift those are just my imaginings.

Make your own “vision”:

So you go now and make your own vision and let us not say vision but “REALITY” because that vision is going to be your reality while you train. Imagine that you are anything like a mutant or something like that. It doesn’t have to be clever but it does have to be something that you can relate to at an emotional level. No matter how weird it is use that vision if you can relate to it deeply. Surely it will help you in your lifts and it will help you achieve 100% effort in the gym and yield greater results. The same reason why listening to music while you lift will pump you up.

Light weight!!!
