Why You Shouldn’t Put all of Your Faith in Supplements

Supplements are great – they help us load up with the macro nutrients that we need to achieve our training and health goals even if we could not get enough of them from our regular diet and/or lifestyle. Protein supplements like whey for example, are great since it would require slabs and slabs of meat in order reach a good intake of 1g of protein per pound of our weight – and truth is, you actually don’t really need more than that.

However, the widespread use of sups is not without a drawback: which is some of us (especially newbies who need them the least) tend to develop the idea that supplements ALONE are good enough as a SUBSTITUTE to the real thing. In other words some people become dependent to these supplements for their development and even health that they get the misconception that their gains solely depend on the amount of tablets and powder that they shove down their throat.
Someone recently asked me to answer a question on Quora that went like this:
Are dietary supplements a healthy alternative?

What are some arguments for and against this?
Although he is obviously pertaining to the “health” side of things this could reflect that people are becoming too concerned with the supplements that they take so much that they forget to take into account the quality of the actual REAL food that they take in.

My answer went like this:

The question is not clear;
Healthy alternative for what exactly?
But supplements are not meant to replace – they are meant to SUPPLEMENT
That means supplements are temporary substitutes – you simply cannot depend on them permanently – a nation that depends on supplements permanently will become like the USA – with 50% obesity rate and land whales for women. THIS IS ABNORMAL

Note that I even advise beginners to steer away from using supplements for the mean time to make it clear to them that it is wrong to get obsessed with supplements – I got huge gains during my teenage years and I never took a sip of whey, whatsoever and only utilized boiled eggs after training  http://aboutlifting.com/no-supplements/
Whole foods are always the best and there is no substitute or “alternative” for that

Keep in mind that our bodies are designed to better absorb nutrients that come from real foods – not the ones that are synthesized.

If there is one principle that can beat all savvy and OVERPRICED diets out there it is this:
JUST STICK TO REAL FOODS (http://aboutlifting.com/simple-losefat/) – you will loos fat, you will be stronger and healthier.

All in all there is so much that some people don’t know about supplements. These are only meant as convenient substitutes. You priority should be to improve the quality of real foods that you take in on a daily basis.

Yes there is nothing wrong with supplementing with whey protein to increase your protein intake but make sure that you prioritize taking in meat and real animal fat on a daily basis.

Fresh Oysters sautéed in vinegar are great source of healthy natural fats will fuel your hormones for anabolic growth and Omega 3 which is great for Heart Health:

It is under this same principle why I believe that creatine is the only supplement that makes most sense. Creatine is just something that YOU HAVE TO SUPPLMENT WITH since it is damn near impossible to load on creatine naturally. Unless you have the budget to eat 3 slabs of steak 6 times a day!

All in all you should prioritize getting your micros and macros from real quality foods instead of putting all your money on branded supplements. Do not be obsessed and pre occupied with following the “latest trends” and “breakthrough” supplements that big companies shove down your asses because the truth is, you can get real and massive gains from a whey Isolate + Creatine monohydrate stack and nothing else.

Most of those tablets and “aminos” and NOs, HSPs don’t mean shit if you have a lousy diet and training regimen!

Keep that in mind, and EAT YOUR EGGS, A-Lifters!
