There is no denying the fact that supplements (whey protein, creatine, etc) are not that cheap. Yes and some may be quite expensive – but if you are a beginner you shouldn’t have this as a problem or else you are misguided. So we all agree on this; so what is the easiest way to get discounts from your protein powders and supplements?
Just to set your expectations this post will only refer to your local supplement retailers which you will usually find in certain malls and shopping centers (and some independently). We will not have coupon codes or online shopping tips here in this post.
Another thing: please do take your time first and foremost to research whether or not the store you will be buying your supps from sell genuine products. YES, even supplements get counterfeited these days so be careful! Who knows if they are just selling you talc powder or something!Follow @AboutLifting
The simplest way is to ask for it:
Ask and ye shall receive; who knows, the store owner might be having a good day or perhaps the sales lady just got a proposal from her long time lover. You just have to be nice when asking. Go for 50% cut first, you will probably make the store owner laugh, and off course she will not give you that 50% cut but at least you will be setting things up in the right mood. She will think that you are joking and that’s ok since you want him/her to have some positive emotions while you are negotiating. Most likely, she will give you 5-10% or a couple of dollars off and that’s fine! That is already a great help!
Just be nice and you will probably get some discounts, you will even get 10% sometimes. Just always ask “is that the final price, my dear?” then push some more. Thankfully I don’t have the habit of treating people like sh¡t, therefore I usually earn their favors.
Look for the owner:
As you can see I referred to the person selling you the products above as the “owner” but in reality it could also be an employee. But the thing is you might want to talk to the shop owner since the owner will be MORE likely to give you a discount. The reason is obvious off course, since the person owning the business loves the customers more.
It is easy to spot the owner – you will usually spot him/her asking one of the employees to tally the sales. After that, go and ask somebody who that person is just to verify “is that dude an employee or the owner of this place?” The owners are usually Chinese or Indian by the way.Follow @AboutLifting
Big Purchases – or buy the biggest Container:
The store would not have a hard time giving discounts to regular patrons or to people who buy wholesale (these are mostly people who also intend to retail the supps as well) or at least buys more than one product or buys the largest container available. Again: remember to ALWAYS ASK.
Make Friends and get some cell numbers:
For the last couple of weeks I’ve been waiting for the local store in our place to have some Mutant Mass Cookies and Cream. I scouted the place several times and one of the stores’ employees named Allan gave me a calling card with his cell number. He promised that they would request for that flavor and I agreed to just call him from time to time. So I did and for the next 2 or 3 weeks I’ve been calling him to follow up. Unfortunately no Cnc’s of Mutant Mass got delivered, so I decided to get some other product instead. And believe it or not once he learned that I was the one calling he gave me a buck off which is huge savings for me. Converted, the original price is around 71.5 dollars; he gave it to me for only 69. That’s already great savings considering that I will be buying different brands of protein powders and supplements on a regular basis anyways since I would be posting some supplement reviews out here in the next few months. And I don’t want to review any product that I haven’t used personally.
So there you go, if you will be buying some whey protein powders or any supplements from stores, remember to always try these tips and get a few bucks off. And please share any more tips below which you may wish to add! Eat your eggs, people!
