7 Reasons Why Lifting Weights is Good for you -Besides Just Getting you Jacked

Whatever your goals are- whether you are a bodybuilder, a strongman or just a regular joe (or jane) wanting to improve his/her physique; weight lifting or resistance training is one things you cannot go wrong about – besides marrying a rich girl. Resistance training offers many advantages and benefits which you cannot reap somewhere else.

So if you think that weights will only give you “JUST” muscles; well, you’re dead wrong!! Why? Because:

ONE: Lifting Weights Can Extend your Life – Research has proven that muscle heads live longer. Basically they found out that respondents with more muscle mass have significantly lower mortality rate.


In adjusted analyses, total mortality was significantly lower in the fourth quartile of muscle mass index compared to the first: adjusted risk ratio 0.81 (95% confidence interval 0.71 – 0.91) and adjusted hazard ratio 0.80 (95% confidence interval 0.66 – 0.97).

Two: Lifting weights will help you reinvent yourself – A geek will no longer be a geek after months of serious training. He will become a changed man.

You should be teaching kids to lift weights so they end up like Chuck Sipes (big guy above) and not end up as pussies.

I used to be a helpless kid too. At first I couldn’t even handle my own bodyweight in pushups but before I knew it I can bench a hundred pounds – not bad for a skinny kid. From then on my fitness level only got better and better and I trained even if it meant not being able to attend parties and drinking sessions – I don’t regret that one bit.

Three: Lifting weights can help you lose weight (contradicting? 😆 ) – Definitely resistance training will get you burning fat faster than doing marathons. But you have to do it properly.

The existence of muscles itself make you burn fat as you breathe, walk, talk, sleep, or do nothing at all. Why? Muscles are metabolically EXPENSIVE up to 300% more EXPENSIVE than normal tissues. So maintaining muscles gained through LIFTING WEIGHTS already causes you to burn more fats.

Four: Lifting weights will strengthen your bones – Studies show that resistance training positively affects your cancelous bone density and bone mineral density.

Results indicate that 24 weeks of resistance training, including squat and deadlift exercises, is effective in increasing Bone Mineral Density in young healthy men.

Five: Lifting weights can help you learn languages – Well, it alone cannot turn you into a polymath, and a polyglot being conversant in more than 20 languages – as if learning your 2nd or 3rd language won’t be time consuming enough!

But living the life of a hard core lifter can help you maintain a high level psyche and healthy testosterone levels, and healthy testosterone levels will drive you to achieve more and a healthier psyche will help you retain more of what you learn.

So yes, if you want to learn another language, you’d do yourself a disservice if you won’t lift weights or at least do any sort of high intensity physical activity along the way.

Six: Lifting Weights will make you smarter – Related to number 5. I often hear people categorize muscle-bound guys to pea-brined primates. This is very far from the truth because in fact – Studies show that people who lift weights are smarter (or generally wiser to be working out in the first place). So if you want to be smarter lift weights and exercise.

Seven: Lifting weights will help you SIN LESS by developing willpower – exercise helps one develop a healthier “pre-frontal” cortex which is the part of the brain that is involved with WILLPOWER. And the greater your will power, the greater your self control, thus if more people around the world lift weights, the world will become a better, more peaceful place indeed.

No wonder bodybuilders, athletes and strongmen have more discipline and are more ok with getting away from parties, booze, etc only for the sake of catching a weight division, shredding fat for competitions, etc. Basically their exercise and diet alone gives them more willpower than regular sedentary people.

Not only will exercise and good nutrition improve your willpower, but they’ll make you feel better as well. Exercise in particular is known for making us happy by releasing endorphins; these endorphins tend to minimize the discomfort of exercise, block the feeling of pain and are even associated with a feeling of euphoria.

Those seven reasons are basically just the tip of the iceberg. But I hope we have made it clear on this post that the benefits of lifting weights go beyond just getting muscular but can significantly improve your quality of life. I hope you will take at least one or two things from this post to add value to your life. Eat your eggs and LIFT HARD people!

  1. That’s funny, I am multi-lingual and I’ve been working out forever; I never even thought of that!

    By the way Sir, you end always on the “eat your eggs” note (which I do). I was wondering if you just ate hardboiled eggs only if that would be the same as cooking (in lard, butter, oil, etc). I eat hardboiled and cooked of course, but I’ve never really heard any experts talking about hardboiled. There is no extra fat added of course due to the absence of frying, but I would assume it is just as great.

      I eat alot of hard boiled eggs but nowadays I find raw eggs to be more convenient after workouts.

      I really don’t care about extra fats I just use to hard boil eggs because they are easy to prepare and prepare in bulk for the whole day.

      But frying is the best esspecially if it is sunny side up with the yolk uncooked (still liquid) it goes well with dishes like “sisig” – BTW sir you gotta try sisig its great!
